Notation: Seven-Shape
Works featuring music notated with the seven-shape system debuted by Jesse B. Aikin in 1846, in which each degree of the scale is represented by a differently shaped notehead. Aikin's system was the most successful of many competing "seven-shape" systems during the period and remains in widespread use today.
